Hertfordshire House

18 March 2010
Hertfordshire House, Bricket Road. The appeal due to be heard at Inquiry on 18 March has been withdrawn.  The Council planning meeting at which a modified scheme was to be considered has therefore been cancelled.

The Society considers that development proposals for this area should be put on hold until the City Vision exercise has made further progress.  In any case, development the Hertfordshire House site should not be permitted to proceed
in isolation.

Back story.  Hertfordshire House is located on Bricket Road, just opposite the Crown Court.  In 2007 it was purchased from the County Council by a developer (Antringham Developments Ltd).  Planning applications were first submitted in 2008 and recommended for refusal by the Council.  These applications were withdrawn before determination.  New applications (refs: 5/2009/1192 and 1029CA) were submitted in 2009.  These were largely unchanged from the earlier scheme, and were refused by the Council in July 2009.  Appeals were scheduled be heard at an Inquiry starting on 18 March 2010 - but have been withdrawn by the appellant.
