                                                            Planning

St Albans and its conservation areas have evolved over centuries of piecemeal development, a dynamic process that will no doubt continue indefinitely.  We aim to ensure that changes in our built environment add to, not detract from, its unique heritage, character and appearance.

                                                            The Society does this by:
                                                            • Monitoring the thousands of planning applications made to St Albans District Council each year for new buildings, alterations, demolitions and changes of use.    This would include the Council's propsals for City Vision and the Local Development Framework (LDF).
                                                            • Commenting on planning proposals, if necessary speaking at planning committees and appearing at public inquiries, whether to object or support
                                                            • Taking part in consultation exercises about local planning policies such as the Local Development Framework and major development proposals and traffic schemes affecting our city
                                                            • Maintaining dialogue with the Council over key town planning issues such as housing provision and green belt protection

See the drop down list above for items in this section.
