Two examples of these unremarked and now unusual features of Victorian engineering still remain in St Albans.  This one is in Belmont Road (the other is in Marlborough Road).

Our back streets have some amusing signs, and this is a favourite!

The ugly and utilitarian paving slabs were placed on the flower beds before Remembrance Day in 2008 to provide a dry platform for those on parade to stand.

                                                            -  two years on !!

The parks department has at last removed the slabs (ready for planting later this spring ??). Congratulations !!

Friday 25 March 2010 - once again tawdry commercialism pitches up on the Cathedral's front lawn, just in time for Easter.  The Society remonstrated with the Cathedral about this last year.  However, it appears that the Cathedral has granted a licence by the Council to locate an ice cream van here for the summer period.  What an eyesore!
